comments
Below is a selection
of reviews and comments regarding the "Pumicestone Passage Shorebird
Challenge and Identification Guide".
"I was
recently given a copy of Pumicestone Passage Shorebird Challenge and
Identification Guide. I must say I was impressed with the level of detail and
the overall quality of the publication. It will be an extremely useful tool
for all those interested in birdlife and ways to protect them. I appreciate your
detailed accounts and have learnt a lot more about birds from reading it.
The photos are superb and will make it easy to identify each bird. Once again
congratulations and I look forward to your second brochure!"
Carryn Sullivan, MP for Pumicestone (2001 - ), QLD, Australia.
"Had a read
through - fantastic information - particularly for the uninitiated. Well
done."
Colleen Ogilvie (Ferryman Cruises, Bribie Island), QLD, Australia.
"Trevor Ford
deserves credit for this. He has fantastic knowledge, contacts for photos and
creative talent."
Darryl Wright (MBRC), QLD, Australia.
"The PP
Shorebirds brochure is available now from the Bribie Island Information Centre. It's a
great brochure - you have done a terrific job with all the detailed writing,
putting it all together, and including all those lovely photographs. No
wonder it took a while but it was well worth the wait for us."
Ian & Chris Bell (BIEPA), QLD, Australia.
"I have been
through the shorebirds brochure, and it's wonderful. It's a terrific
contribution to the popular shorebird literature, and that's where it's needed.
I can't fault any of the writing, in fact I kept reading and thinking how well
you put everything." + "How handy your brochure is proving. A couple
of shorebirders I know are already waiting for copies to arrive. So handy in the
field I have already found when teaching newies. Also had to ID Red-necked
Stints and say they aren't Sanderlings just now, and yet again the info on the
brochure was at my fingertips. Excellent, Trevor."
Jill Dening (QWSG), QLD, Australia.
"Trevor's
field craft is only one of his talents, he is very knowledgeable about computers
and their application. One task which he applied this knowledge to was the
production of an excellent publication on the identification and conservation of
the shorebirds of Pumicestone Passage. This publication was attractive, full of
accurate facts and could serve also as a model for other similar publications
designed to increase awareness and knowledge of birds of other areas. I strongly
recommend Trevor as a consultant who could take on tasks related to raising
awareness and understanding of the conservation needs of wild birds and their
habitats."
Leo Batten (Biodiversity Consultant), Norfolk, UK.
"This is
brilliant work you have done."
Sean Galvin (SEQ Catchments), QLD,
Australia.
"Wal and I
think the brochure is a great help for identification and we can't think of
anything that could improve it. We have already showed it to some friends who
have put it on their 'Must Have' list."
Jean and Wal Corney (BOPPAS), QLD,
Australia.
"I have just
been looking at the Pumicestone Passage Shorebird Challenge and Identification
Guide and I like it very much. Well done! The brochure looks very good to me and
the content, text and photos, are excellent. Judging by the reactions from
people I have shown the brochure to, it should get a very good reception when it
is finally publicly released." + "The brochure really does appear to be receiving
good ratings; even the oldies in my village are impressed. I tell everyone I
meet at places like the Buckley's Hole hide to get one. I hope they have them at
the information centre."
Robert Inglis, QLD, Australia.
"The brochure
looks very good. It contains very useful information."
Sandra Harding (QWSG}, QLD, Australia.
"We
stopped at the library and picked up a copy of the Pumicestone brochure.
It's very informative and well put together - we were impressed. The photos are excellent.
The brochure is much admired by many of our birding friends. Demand may
increase!" + "There were two other birders at Toorbul yesterday, and
we noticed them unfolding your brochure."
Ian and Jill Brown (Birds Queensland),
QLD, Australia.

Below is a selection
of reviews and comments regarding "Buckley's Hole - Birds of Buckley's
Hole Conservation Park".
"Trevor
Ford's book on Buckley's Hole - what a marvel it is! The author has put so much
work into it, through research and consultation, as well as observation, and
then just downright hard work. The result is a book that is both absorbing to
read and an indispensable guide once you're there. It really is a book I will
treasure. And it's a fine example to us. Best wishes, Trevor, and thank
you."
Judith
Lukin-Amundsen, QLD, Australia.
"I
thought I would write a short review on my thoughts of the Buckley's Hole
Booklet written and compiled by Trevor Ford.
The
Buckley's Hole Booklet obviously took a lot of time to write and is one
fantastic booklet based on an area which has great significance. The book
contains a great foreword from Bill Jolly, details on the Buckley's Hole
Conservation
Park, Management of the Park and then introduces the reader to
the
park's inhabitants which includes birds that are common, not so common
and
rare as well as the odd vagrant that pops up and gives great excitement
to
the birdos that visit the Conservation Park. Also, towards the back of the
booklet is a list of species accounts given by
a number of birdos with some exciting birds such as Frigatebirds and
Bitterns
being mentioned. This booklet really is great and the effort put
into
compiling the information shows what we can all do with our local
patch.
Trevor should be commended for his effort and has done a marvellous
job."
Jade
Welch, QLD, Australia.
"The Buckley's Hole
booklet is a model for what such local lists should should be like, very nicely
done."
Phil Gregory (Cassowary House), QLD, Australia.
"Congratulations
on a fine effort. I am very impressed with your thoroughness and have some
appreciation for the amount of work that you must have put in to it. I'm sure it
will be of value."
Bob James, QLD, Australia.
"I
found it most interesting and really liked the section where you had the
accounts of the people who first located a new species for the area. Great
idea."
Graham Barwell, NSW, Australia.
